"Different from and within this food sheath is another inner self made of vital breath. By that, this is filled. This also has the form of a person. Following the human form of that, this also is in human form. Of this, Prana is the head. Vyana is the right wing. Apana is the left wing. Space is the trunk. Earth is the tail, the foundation."

What This Means:

Inside the food body is the Pranamaya kosha - the energy body made of life-force. The five pranas form its parts.

Going Deeper:

The vital sheath fills and animates the physical body. Prana leads (head), Vyana and Apana are the balancing wings, space and earth provide context.

How To Apply This:

Beyond the physical body is your energy body. Work with breath (pranayama) to strengthen this vital sheath.
