"This person is made of the essence of food. This indeed is its head. This is the right side. This is the left side. This is the self (trunk). This is the tail, the foundation."
What This Means:
The first sheath (kosha) is Annamaya - made of food. The physical body is shaped like a bird with head, two wings, trunk, and tail.
Going Deeper:
The body is literally made of food. The five-part bird image is used for each kosha: head (primary), two wings (supporting), trunk (core), tail (foundation).
How To Apply This:
Recognize that your physical body is made of and sustained by food. Treat food as sacred - it becomes you.
