अङ्गुष्ठमात्रः पुरुषोऽन्तरात्मा सदा जनानां हृदये संनिविष्टः। हृदा मनीषा मनसाभिक्लृप्तो य एतद्विदुरमृतास्ते भवन्ति॥
aṅguṣṭhamātraḥ puruṣo'ntarātmā sadā janānāṃ hṛdaye saṃniviṣṭaḥ | hṛdā manīṣā manasābhiklṛpto ya etadviduramṛtāste bhavanti ||
"The Person of the size of a thumb, the inner Self, is always seated in the hearts of people. He is realized by the heart, by wisdom, by the mind. Those who know this become immortal."
What This Means:
The inner Self, thumb-sized, dwells always in the heart. It is known through heart, wisdom, and mind. Those who know this become immortal.
Going Deeper:
The thumb-sized Purusha (from Katha Upanishad) is the Atman in the heart. Realization requires heart (feeling), wisdom (insight), and mind (thought).
How To Apply This:
The Self in your heart is thumb-sized - intimate and close. Know it through heart, wisdom, and mind.
