अथैकयोर्ध्व उदानः पुण्येन पुण्यं लोकं नयति पापेन पापमुभाभ्यामेव मनुष्यलोकम्॥

athaikayordhva udānaḥ puṇyena puṇyaṃ lokaṃ nayati pāpena pāpamubhābhyāmeva manuṣyalokam ||

""Through one of these (the central channel), Udana rises upward. By virtuous deeds, it leads to the virtuous world; by sinful deeds, to the sinful world; by both, to the human world.""

What This Means:

Udana is the upward-moving breath that, at death, carries the soul to its next destination based on karma - heaven, hell, or rebirth as human.

Going Deeper:

The sushumna (central channel) is the path of liberation. Udana traveling through it at death determines the next birth.

How To Apply This:

Your deeds determine your destination. Cultivate virtue. At death, Udana will carry you according to your karma.
