Paraphrase of Maitri Upaniṣad 3.2

"Know that the gunas arise from prakriti (nature). The Self itself is without qualities, beyond qualities."

What This Means:

While the gunas belong to nature, the true Self is beyond all qualities - it is pure awareness.

Going Deeper:

This is the key discrimination: identify not with the changing qualities but with the changeless witness.

How To Apply This:

You are not your moods, not your thoughts, not your tendencies - you are the awareness that knows them.
