tasmād vā indro 'titarām ivānyān devān sa hy enan nediṣṭhaṁ pasparśa sa hy enat prathamo vidāṁcakāra brahmeti ||
"Therefore Indra surpasses the other gods most of all, for he touched It nearest; he first came to know It as Brahman."
What This Means:
Among all the gods, Indra stands highest because he came closest and was first to truly understand. He stayed in the presence of the mystery when others turned back, and he received the teaching of Uma.
Going Deeper:
The mind (Indra), when purified of its grasping tendency, is the instrument of self-knowledge. While it cannot "capture" Brahman, it can recognize that its own source is Brahman. This recognition happens through grace.
How To Apply This:
Your mind may seem like an obstacle to spiritual realization, but it can also be the very instrument of awakening. A humble, receptive mind that stays present is what finally receives the truth.
