"Therefore these gods — Agni, Vayu, and Indra — surpass the other gods, for they touched It nearest; they first came to know It as Brahman."
What This Means:
Fire, Wind, and Indra became the greatest gods because they had the closest encounter with Brahman. Though they initially failed to recognize it, they were the ones who "touched" it. Indra, who received Uma's teaching, was first to understand.
Going Deeper:
Direct encounter with truth — even when we don't immediately understand — transforms us. The gods who struggled with the Yaksha were closer to reality than those who never tried. And Indra's openness to grace (Uma) completed the understanding.
How To Apply This:
Don't be discouraged by initial failure in your spiritual inquiry. The struggle itself brings you closer. Stay open to grace, and understanding will dawn.
