Kena Upanishad 3.2
beginner
त ऐक्षन्तास्माकमेवायं विजयोऽस्माकमेवायं महिमेति ॥
ta aikṣantāsmākam evāyaṁ vijayo 'smākam evāyaṁ mahimeti ||
"They thought: "This victory is ours alone! This glory is ours alone!""
What This Means:
The gods became proud. They forgot that Brahman was the real power behind their victory and claimed all the credit for themselves.
Going Deeper:
This represents the ego's tendency to appropriate what belongs to the whole. Just as our individual faculties work because of consciousness (which we don't create), the gods' powers came from Brahman.
How To Apply This:
Notice when you take credit for things that weren't entirely your doing. Your body works without your control. Your thoughts arise without your willing them. Who's really running the show?
Key Sanskrit Terms:
Aikṣanta= They thought, they sawAsmākam= OursVijayaḥ= VictoryMahimā= Glory, greatness
