ये वै के चास्माल्लोकात्प्रयन्ति चन्द्रमसमेव ते सर्वे गच्छन्ति।

ye vai ke cāsmāllokātprayanti candramasameva te sarve gacchanti |

"All those who depart from this world go to the moon."

What This Means:

The king begins to teach: after death, all souls first go to the moon.

The moon represents the realm of the ancestors (pitriloka) - an intermediate station where the soul's destiny is determined.
