śvetaketurHāruṇeya āsa taṃ ha pitovāca śvetaketo vasa brahmacaryaṃ na vai somyāsmatkūlīno\'nanūcya brahmabandhuriva bhavatīti ||
"Shvetaketu was the grandson of Aruna. His father said to him: "Shvetaketu, go and live as a student of sacred knowledge. For, dear one, no one from our family remains unlearned, merely claiming to be a Brahmin by birth.""
What This Means:
Uddalaka sends his son Shvetaketu for education at age 12, saying their family tradition requires true knowledge, not just Brahmin birth.
Going Deeper:
The opening establishes that spiritual knowledge must be earned through study (brahmacarya), not claimed by birth alone.
How To Apply This:
Real spiritual status comes from knowledge and practice, not birth. Seek genuine understanding.
