तमभ्यतपत् तस्याभितप्तस्य मुखं निरभिद्यत यथाऽण्डम् । मुखाद्वाग्वाचोऽग्निः । नासिके निरभिद्येतां नासिकाभ्यां प्राणः प्राणाद्वायुः ॥

tam abhyatapat tasyābhitaptasya mukhaṁ nirabhidyata yathā'ṇḍam | mukhād vāg vāco 'gniḥ | nāsike nirabhidyetāṁ nāsikābhyāṁ prāṇaḥ prāṇād vāyuḥ ||

"He brooded over him. From the brooded-upon Person, the mouth opened like an egg. From the mouth came speech; from speech came Fire. The nostrils opened; from them came breath; from breath came Air."

What This Means:

Through divine contemplation (tapas), the cosmic Person's body begins to develop. First the mouth opens, giving rise to speech and its cosmic counterpart, Fire (Agni). Then the nostrils open for breath, connected to Air (Vayu).

Going Deeper:

Each sense organ is connected to a cosmic element and deity. Speech and Fire are linked because both illuminate and transform. Breath and Air share the quality of movement and life-force. The body is a microcosm of the universe.

When you speak, you're wielding the power of fire — words can warm or burn. When you breathe, you're connecting with the cosmic wind. These aren't just biological functions; they're sacred.
