yāvat sañjāyate kiñcit sattvaṁ sthāvara-jaṅgamam kṣetra-kṣetrajña-saṁyogāt tad viddhi bharatarṣabha
"Whatever being is born, whether stationary or moving, know that to be from the union of the field and the knower of the field, O best of the Bharatas."
What This Means:
Everything that exists—whether still (like mountains, plants) or moving (like animals, humans)—arises from the union of matter (field) and consciousness (knower). This explains all existence.
Going Deeper:
'Yāvat kiñcit sattvaṁ sañjāyate'—whatever being comes into existence. 'Sthāvara-jaṅgamam'—stationary or moving (the two categories of embodied life). 'Kṣetra-kṣetrajña-saṁyogāt'—from the union of field and field-knower. This 'saṁyoga' (union) is the mysterious conjunction of consciousness with matter that produces all manifest existence.
How To Apply This:
Every living being you encounter—insect, animal, human—is consciousness manifest in matter. This recognition fosters reverence for all life. Even plants have the field-knower union, though less manifest.
