Gita 10.38
दण्डो दमयतामस्मि नीतिरस्मि जिगीषताम्।
मौनं चैवास्मि गुह्यानां ज्ञानं ज्ञानवतामहम्।।
daṇḍo damayatām asmi nītir asmi jigīṣatām maunaṁ caivāsmi guhyānāṁ jñānaṁ jñānavatām aham
"Among means of control I am punishment; among those seeking victory I am wise policy; among secrets I am silence; and I am the knowledge of the wise."
What This Means:
Among disciplinary tools—punishment (danda, the rod of justice). Among victory-seekers—wise strategy (niti). Among secrets—silence (the best keeper of secrets). Among the wise—knowledge itself.
Going Deeper:
Danda represents legitimate authority that maintains order. Silence as the keeper of secrets is profound—some truths are guarded by not speaking. And the knowledge OF the wise, not just the wise themselves.
How To Apply This:
Sometimes silence protects what's sacred. Not all truth needs broadcasting. And legitimate discipline (danda) serves divine order when properly applied.
