Gita 1.33
येषामर्थे काङ्क्षितं नो राज्यं भोगाः सुखानि च। त इमेऽवस्थिता युद्धे प्राणांस्त्यक्त्वा धनानि च।।

yeṣām arthe kāṅkṣitaṁ no rājyaṁ bhogāḥ sukhāni ca ta ime 'vasthitā yuddhe prāṇāṁs tyaktvā dhanāni ca

"Those for whose sake we desire kingdom, enjoyments, and pleasures—they stand here in battle, ready to give up their lives and wealth."

What This Means:

Arjuna realizes: the very people we wanted to enjoy the kingdom WITH are the ones we have to kill to GET it. The goal contradicts the means. What's the point of winning if everyone we wanted to share victory with is dead?

Going Deeper:

This is a profound insight wrapped in despair. Arjuna sees the absurdity of the situation but draws the wrong conclusion. The insight is valid; his response to it needs correction.

How To Apply This:

Sometimes we pursue goals that destroy what we actually value. Success that costs us our relationships, health, or integrity is hollow victory. What are you sacrificing for your goals?

Key Sanskrit Terms:

Arthe= For the sake ofPraṇa= Life, breath
