Gita 1.34
आचार्याः पितरः पुत्रास्तथैव च पितामहाः।
मातुलाः श्वशुराः पौत्राः श्यालाः सम्बन्धिनस्तथा।।
ācāryāḥ pitaraḥ putrās tathaiva ca pitāmahāḥ mātulāḥ śvaśurāḥ pautrāḥ śyālāḥ sambandinas tathā
"Teachers, fathers, sons, grandfathers, maternal uncles, fathers-in-law, grandsons, brothers-in-law, and other relatives."
What This Means:
Arjuna lists everyone again, emphasizing the relationships. Each word names someone he'll have to kill or see killed. Teachers who taught him. Fathers who raised him. Sons of friends. Grandsons of mentors.
Going Deeper:
This repetitive listing is itself a symptom of his mental state—stuck, cycling through the same painful realizations, unable to move forward or find resolution.
How To Apply This:
When we're overwhelmed, our mind often loops—returning to the same thoughts repeatedly. Recognize when you're stuck in a loop. That's the signal you need outside perspective.
