या ते रुद्र शिवा तनूरघोराऽपापकाशिनी। तया नस्तनुवा शन्तमया गिरिशन्ताभिचाकशीहि॥
yā te rudra śivā tanūraghorā'pāpakāśinī | tayā nastanuvā śantamayā giriśantābhicākaśīhi ||
"O Rudra, that form of yours which is auspicious (shiva), not terrible, revealing no evil - with that most benign form, O dweller in the mountains, look upon us."
What This Means:
O Rudra, you have a gentle, auspicious form - not fierce, not evil. With that peaceful, benign form, O mountain-dweller, please look upon us.
Going Deeper:
Rudra has both fierce (ghora) and gentle (aghora) aspects. The devotee invokes the shiva (auspicious) form. Girisha (mountain-dweller) is a name of Shiva.
How To Apply This:
Invoke the gentle, auspicious aspect of the Divine. God has fierce and peaceful forms - seek the benevolent gaze.
