प्लवा ह्येते अदृढा यज्ञरूपा अष्टादशोक्तमवरं येषु कर्म। एतच्छ्रेयो येऽभिनन्दन्ति मूढा जरामृत्युं ते पुनरेवापि यन्ति॥
plavā hyete adṛḍhā yajñarūpā aṣṭādaśoktamavaraṃ yeṣu karma | etacchreyo ye'bhinandanti mūḍhā jarāmṛtyuṃ te punarevāpi yanti ||
"But frail are these boats of the eighteen sacrificial forms in which the lower karma is expressed. The fools who delight in this as the highest good fall again into old age and death."
What This Means:
Now the limitation is revealed: rituals are like leaky boats. Those who think ritual is the highest path will age and die again.
Going Deeper:
This is the turning point: after describing ritual's benefits, the Upanishad reveals its fundamental limitation - it cannot liberate.
How To Apply This:
Don't mistake preparation for the goal. Good actions bring good results, but not liberation.
