शौनको ह वै महाशालोऽङ्गिरसं विधिवदुपसन्नः पप्रच्छ। कस्मिन्नु भगवो विज्ञाते सर्वमिदं विज्ञातं भवतीति॥

śaunako ha vai mahāśālo'ṅgirasaṃ vidhivadupasannaḥ papraccha | kasminnubhagavo vijñāte sarvamidaṃ vijñātaṃ bhavatīti ||

"Shaunaka, a great householder, approached Angiras properly and asked: "Revered sir, what is that by knowing which everything becomes known?""

What This Means:

A wealthy householder named Shaunaka asks the ultimate question: Is there one thing whose knowledge reveals everything else?

Going Deeper:

This is the fundamental question of Vedanta. Shaunaka seeks the one knowledge that makes all other knowledge complete.

How To Apply This:

Ask yourself: What is the one thing I could know that would illuminate everything else?
