Kena Upanishad 3.4

तेऽग्निमब्रुवन् जातवेद एतद्विजानीहि किमेतद्यक्षमिति तथेति ॥
te 'gnim abruvan jātaveda etad vijānīhi kim etad yakṣam iti tatheti ||
"They said to Agni (Fire): "Jatavedas (O All-knowing One), find out what this spirit is." He said: "So be it.""
What This Means:
The gods sent Agni, the god of fire, to investigate. They called him "Jatavedas" — the one who knows all that is born, who illumines everything. Surely Fire, who sees all, could identify this being.
Going Deeper:
Agni represents the faculty of perception and purification. The gods rely on him to "illuminate" the unknown. But as we'll see, even perception cannot perceive its own source.
