स होवाचेन्द्रो न वै वरं वृणानो वृणीते। त्वमेव मे वरो भवेति।

sa hovācendro na vai varaṃ vṛṇāno vṛṇīte | tvameva me varo bhaveti |

"Indra said: "One who is choosing a boon should indeed choose. But you yourself become the boon to me!""

What This Means:

Indra was so pleased by Pratardana's wise answer that he declared Pratardana himself to be a gift.

Going Deeper:

This mutual gift-giving establishes a sacred teacher-student relationship. The student's humility makes them worthy of the highest teaching.

How To Apply This:

When you approach wisdom with humility, you become receptive to receiving it.
