Kaushitaki Upanishad 1.4
beginner
स होवाच नेति। तं होवाच राजा पुनर्मैधि होतव्यमिति।
sa hovāca neti | taṃ hovāca rājā punarmaidhi hotavyamiti |
"He replied: "No." The king said: "Then you must offer sacrifice for me again.""
What This Means:
Shvetaketu admitted he did not know the answer, and the king required him to return and learn before completing the ritual.
Going Deeper:
Honest admission of ignorance is the beginning of true learning. The king values real knowledge over mere ritual performance.
How To Apply This:
It is better to admit not knowing than to pretend understanding. Honesty opens the door to learning.
