नाविरतो दुश्चरितान्नाशान्तो नासमाहितः। नाशान्तमानसो वापि प्रज्ञानेनैनमाप्नुयात्॥
nāvirato duścaritānnāśānto nāsamāhitaḥ | nāśāntamānaso vāpi prajñānenainamāpnuyāt ||
""One who has not ceased from bad conduct, who is not tranquil, who is not collected, whose mind is not at peace, cannot attain this Self through knowledge.""
What This Means:
The Self isn't realized by one who acts badly, lacks tranquility, isn't focused, or has a restless mind. Ethics and inner peace are prerequisites.
Going Deeper:
This lists the qualifications: good conduct, tranquility, concentration, and mental peace. Without these, knowledge remains merely intellectual.
How To Apply This:
Before seeking higher knowledge, establish ethical conduct and inner peace. These are the foundation.
