Chandogya Upanishad 7.1
beginner
अधीहि भगव इति होपससाद सनत्कुमारं नारदः। तं होवाच यद्वेत्थ तेन मोपसीद ततस्त ऊर्ध्वं वक्ष्यामीति॥
adhīhi bhagava iti hopasasāda sanatkumāraṃ nāradaḥ | taṃ hovāca yadvettha tena mopasīda tatasta ūrdhvaṃ vakṣyāmīti ||
"Narada approached Sanatkumara and said: "Teach me, venerable sir." Sanatkumara replied: "Tell me what you know, and I will teach you what is beyond.""
What This Means:
Sage Narada, though learned, seeks higher knowledge from Sanatkumara. The teacher asks: What do you already know?
Going Deeper:
True teaching begins where the student's knowledge ends. Sanatkumara will take Narada from relative knowledge to the Absolute.
How To Apply This:
Approach a teacher humbly. Share what you know, so you can learn what is beyond.
