Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 1.3

स वै नैव रेमे। तस्मादेकाकी न रमते। स द्वितीयमैच्छत्। स हैतावानास यथा स्त्रीपुमांसौ सम्परिष्वक्तौ। स इममेवात्मानं द्वेधापातयत्। ततः पतिश्च पत्नी चाभवताम्॥
sa vai naiva reme | tasmādekākī na ramate | sa dvitīyamaicchat | sa haitāvānāsa yathā strīpumāṃsau samPariṣvaktau | sa imamevātmānaṃ dvedhāpātayat | tataḥ patiśca patnī cābhavatām ||
"He was not happy. Therefore one who is alone is not happy. He desired a second. He was as large as a man and woman embracing. He divided this very self into two. From that, husband and wife arose."
What This Means:
The Self was not happy alone and desired company. It split itself in two - husband and wife. This is how duality and relationship began.
Going Deeper:
Desire for a second (dvitiya) creates the world. The male-female split is the primal division from which all creation flows.
How To Apply This:
Loneliness drives creation. Your desire for relationship reflects the cosmic desire for the "other."
