"In the beginning, this one becomes an embryo in the person (father), which is the seed. This is the essence gathered from all limbs; he bears himself in himself. When he deposits it in a woman, he begets it. This is his first birth."
What This Means:
The Upanishad now describes three "births" of the Self. The first birth is when the father produces seed — this seed contains the essence of all his limbs, carrying the Self into potential offspring. Depositing it in the mother begins the journey to physical manifestation.
Going Deeper:
The Self doesn't just appear at conception — it exists first as potential in the father's body, gathered from all parts as "tejas" (essence, light). This first birth represents the transition from the purely unmanifest to the beginning of manifestation.
How To Apply This:
You existed as potential before you were conceived — as essence in your father's body. Your existence didn't start at birth; it has been unfolding through multiple stages. Honor the journey.
