Chapter 8: The Imperishable Brahman

13 / 28
Gita 8.13
ओमित्येकाक्षरं ब्रह्म व्याहरन्मामनुस्मरन्। यः प्रयाति त्यजन्देहं स याति परमां गतिम्।।

om ity ekākṣaraṁ brahma vyāharan mām anusmaran yaḥ prayāti tyajan dehaṁ sa yāti paramāṁ gatim

"...uttering 'Om,' the single syllable that is Brahman, remembering Me while leaving the body—such a person attains the supreme destination."

What This Means:

The final element: chanting Om (the sound-form of Brahman) while remembering Krishna and leaving the body. This combination—sacred sound, divine remembrance, conscious departure—leads to the highest goal.

Going Deeper:

Om is not just a sound; it's the vibrational essence of reality. Uttering it aligns the departing soul with cosmic truth. Combined with personal devotion (remembering Krishna), both paths—jnana and bhakti—unite.

How To Apply This:

Make Om a part of your daily practice. Its familiarity will serve you when words fail. At death, it may be the one sound that still comes naturally. Let it become your companion.
