ye caiva sāttvikā bhāvā rājasās tāmasāś ca ye matta eveti tān viddhi na tv ahaṁ teṣu te mayi
"Know that all states of being—whether of goodness, passion, or ignorance—come from Me. I am not in them, but they are in Me."
What This Means:
The three gunas (sattva, rajas, tamas) all come from Krishna, but He's not limited by them. They're in Him; He's not in them. Like waves are in the ocean, but the ocean isn't confined to any wave.
Going Deeper:
This resolves a paradox: if everything comes from God, doesn't that include evil? Yes, but Krishna transcends all qualities. The gunas manifest from Him, but He's the unchanging source beyond all change.
How To Apply This:
Your moods—clarity, agitation, dullness—all arise from the same source and return to it. Don't identify with any temporary state. You are the awareness in which all states appear and disappear.
