nainaṁ chindanti śastrāṇi nainaṁ dahati pāvakaḥ na cainaṁ kledayanty āpo na śoṣayati mārutaḥ
"Weapons cannot cut the soul, fire cannot burn it, water cannot wet it, and wind cannot dry it."
What This Means:
Krishna uses the four elements to drive home the point: nothing physical can affect the soul. Swords? Useless. Fire? Can't touch it. Water? Doesn't apply. Wind? No effect. The soul is completely beyond physical harm.
Going Deeper:
This verse addresses every possible way we might imagine something being destroyed. In ancient thought, everything was made of earth, water, fire, and air. Krishna says the soul is beyond all of these—it's not made of matter at all. It exists on a completely different plane of reality.
How To Apply This:
When you feel threatened—physically, emotionally, professionally—remember that the core of you is untouchable. People can harm your body, damage your reputation, take your possessions. But the real you? Invulnerable. This isn't about being reckless—protect your body. But don't let fear of physical harm stop you from doing what's right.
