kāryam ity eva yat karma niyataṁ kriyate 'rjuna saṅgaṁ tyaktvā phalaṁ caiva sa tyāgaḥ sāttviko mataḥ
"When obligatory action is performed simply because it ought to be done, O Arjuna, abandoning attachment and fruit—that renunciation is considered sattvic."
What This Means:
The best renunciation is doing your duties simply because they should be done, without attachment to the action itself or its results. This is sattvic tyaga.
Going Deeper:
Sattvic tyaga has three elements: (1) Niyata karma - doing prescribed duties, not arbitrary actions; (2) Karya iti - done because it's right, not for pleasure or gain; (3) Sanga-phala tyaga - without attachment to action or results. This is the synthesis of karma yoga - full engagement with complete detachment.
How To Apply This:
Do what needs to be done because it's the right thing to do. Not for recognition, not for reward, not even because you enjoy it - simply because it's your dharma.
