Gita 18.3
त्याज्यं दोषवदित्येके कर्म प्राहुर्मनीषिणः। यज्ञदानतपःकर्म न त्याज्यमिति चापरे॥

tyājyaṁ doṣavad ity eke karma prāhur manīṣiṇaḥ yajña-dāna-tapaḥ-karma na tyājyam iti cāpare

"Some learned ones declare that all action should be abandoned as evil; others say that acts of sacrifice, charity, and austerity should not be given up."

What This Means:

Different teachers have different views. Some say give up all actions because they create bondage. Others say certain good actions like worship, giving, and self-discipline should never be abandoned.

Going Deeper:

Krishna presents the philosophical debate of his time. Extreme renunciates (like some Jains and Buddhists) advocated total inaction. Orthodox Vedantins maintained that sacred duties purify and should continue. Krishna will resolve this apparent contradiction by distinguishing types of renunciation.

How To Apply This:

When faced with conflicting advice from experts, don't get paralyzed. Listen to multiple viewpoints, then seek the underlying principle that reconciles them.

Key Sanskrit Terms:

Dosha= fault, defectYajna= sacrifice, worshipDana= charity, givingTapas= austerity, self-discipline
