Gita 18.29
बुद्धेर्भेदं धृतेश्चैव गुणतस्त्रिविधं शृणु। प्रोच्यमानमशेषेण पृथक्त्वेन धनञ्जय॥

buddher bhedaṁ dhṛteś caiva guṇatas tri-vidhaṁ śṛṇu procyamānam aśeṣeṇa pṛthaktvena dhanañjaya

"Hear now, O Dhananjaya, the threefold distinction of intellect and also of fortitude according to the gunas, explained completely and separately."

What This Means:

Krishna will now explain three types of intellect (buddhi) and three types of determination (dhriti), based on the three gunas - sattva, rajas, and tamas.

Going Deeper:

Having covered knowledge, action, and agent, Krishna now addresses buddhi (discriminative faculty) and dhriti (sustaining willpower). 'Asheshena' (completely) and 'prithaktvena' (separately) indicate thorough, detailed teaching. Dhananjaya (conqueror of wealth) reminds Arjuna of his capacity for achievement - now directed inward.

How To Apply This:

Understanding how your decision-making faculty and willpower are affected by the gunas helps you make better choices and sustain good practices.

Key Sanskrit Terms:

Buddhi= intellect, discriminative facultyDhriti= fortitude, sustaining willDhananjaya= conqueror of wealth
