Gita 17.9
कट्वम्ललवणात्युष्णतीक्ष्णरूक्षविदाहिनः। आहारा राजसस्येष्टा दुःखशोकामयप्रदाः॥

kaṭv-amla-lavaṇāty-uṣṇa-tīkṣṇa-rūkṣa-vidāhinaḥ āhārā rājasasyeṣṭā duḥkha-śokāmaya-pradāḥ

"Foods that are bitter, sour, salty, very hot, pungent, dry, and burning—these are liked by the rajasic and cause pain, grief, and disease."

What This Means:

Rajasic people crave foods that are bitter, sour, very salty, excessively hot, sharp, dry, and burning. These foods cause suffering, grief, and illness.

Going Deeper:

Seven characteristics of rajasic food: kaṭu (bitter), amla (sour), lavaṇa (salty), atyuṣṇa (very hot), tīkṣṇa (pungent/sharp), rūkṣa (dry), vidāhi (burning). Results: duḥkha (pain), śoka (grief), āmaya (disease). Excessive spices, stimulants, and extreme flavors agitate the system and disturb peace.

How To Apply This:

Notice if you crave extreme flavors—very spicy, very salty, very sour. These cravings often reflect and reinforce rajasic agitation. Moderate your diet for a calmer mind.
