Gita 17.11
अफलाकाङ्क्षिभिर्यज्ञो विधिदृष्टो य इज्यते। यष्टव्यमेवेति मनः समाधाय स सात्त्विकः॥

aphalākāṅkṣibhir yajño vidhi-diṣṭo ya ijyate yaṣṭavyam eveti manaḥ samādhāya sa sāttvikaḥ

"Sacrifice offered according to scriptural injunctions, by those not desiring the fruit, with the mind fixed on the thought 'this ought to be done'—that is sattvic."

What This Means:

Sattvic sacrifice is performed as prescribed by wisdom teachings, without desire for results, with the mind fixed on duty—'This should be done.' It's worship for worship's sake.

Going Deeper:

Three marks of sattvic sacrifice: (1) 'vidhi-diṣṭaḥ'—according to proper method (not arbitrary). (2) 'Aphala-ākāṅkṣibhiḥ'—by those not desiring fruit (selfless). (3) 'Yaṣṭavyam eva iti manaḥ samādhāya'—mind settled in 'this ought to be done' (done from duty, not craving). This is pure worship—offering to God with no ulterior motive.

How To Apply This:

When you pray or worship, do so without bargaining. Don't pray 'to get something.' Worship because it's right, because gratitude and devotion are natural responses to the Divine. Expect nothing.
