Chapter 16: Divine & Demonic

8 / 24
Gita 16.8
असत्यमप्रतिष्ठं ते जगदाहुरनीश्वरम्। अपरस्परसम्भूतं किमन्यत्कामहैतुकम्॥

asatyam apratiṣṭhaṁ te jagad āhur anīśvaram aparaspara-sambhūtaṁ kim anyat kāma-haitukam

"They say the universe is without truth, without foundation, without a God, not arising from mutual causation—what else but driven by lust?"

What This Means:

The demonic worldview: the universe has no truth, no foundation, no God, no real causation—it's all driven by random desire. This nihilistic view underlies demonic behavior.

Going Deeper:

The demonic philosophy: 'asatyam'—without truth (no objective reality). 'Apratiṣṭham'—without foundation (nothing solid). 'Anīśvaram'—without God/Lord (no divine order). 'Aparaspara-sambhūtam'—not from mutual causation (denying karmic law). 'Kāma-haitukam'—caused by desire alone (random lust created everything). This materialist nihilism justifies unlimited selfish action.

How To Apply This:

Notice how worldview shapes behavior. If there's no truth, why be honest? If there's no God, why be good? If life is random, why care? A coherent spiritual worldview provides foundation for ethical living.
