Chapter 14: The Three Gunas

26 / 27
Gita 14.26
मां च योऽव्यभिचारेण भक्तियोगेन सेवते। स गुणान्समतीत्यैतान्ब्रह्मभूयाय कल्पते॥

māṁ ca yo 'vyabhicāreṇa bhakti-yogena sevate sa guṇān samatītyaitān brahma-bhūyāya kalpate

"And one who serves Me with unswerving devotion, transcending these gunas, becomes fit for becoming Brahman."

What This Means:

The method: serve God with unwavering devotion. This devotion enables transcendence of all gunas and makes one fit to become Brahman—to realize one's identity with the Absolute.

Going Deeper:

The answer to 'how to transcend': 'avyabhicāreṇa bhakti-yogena sevate'—serves with unwavering devotion. Bhakti is the method. 'Guṇān samatītya etān'—transcending these gunas. 'Brahma-bhūyāya kalpate'—becomes fit for Brahman-becoming. Note: devotion to the personal God leads to realization of the impersonal Brahman. Bhakti and jnana unite.

How To Apply This:

The method is devotion—not analysis, not willpower, but love. When you love the Divine completely, you forget yourself. In that self-forgetfulness, the gunas lose their grip. Love is the great transcender.
