Gita 1.11
अयनेषु च सर्वेषु यथाभागमवस्थिताः।
भीष्ममेवाभिरक्षन्तु भवन्तः सर्व एव हि।।
ayaneṣu ca sarveṣu yathā-bhāgam avasthitāḥ bhīṣmam evābhirakṣantu bhavantaḥ sarva eva hi
"Therefore, all of you, stationed in your respective positions, must protect Bhishma from all sides."
What This Means:
Duryodhana gives his order: everyone protect Bhishma! If Bhishma falls, their chances diminish greatly. This reveals that despite his bravado, Duryodhana knows his army's success depends heavily on one man.
Going Deeper:
Duryodhana's strategy is defensive—protect the commander rather than attack aggressively. This defensive mindset, rooted in fear, will ultimately contribute to their defeat.
How To Apply This:
Notice when your strategy becomes primarily defensive—protecting what you have rather than pursuing what's right. Fear-based strategies often lead to the very outcomes we're trying to avoid.
