Verse 5
advanced
तस्माद्विराळजायत विराजो अधि पूरुषः । स जातो अत्यरिच्यत पश्चाद्भूमिमथो पुरः ॥

tasmādvirāḻajāyata virājo adhi pūruṣaḥ | sa jāto atyaricyata paścādbhūmimathopuraḥ ||

From him was born Viraj (the shining one); from Viraj came Purusha again. When born, he extended beyond the earth, behind and before.

What This Means:

From Purusha came Viraj (the cosmic creative power), and from Viraj, Purusha manifested again. This mutual arising shows that creator and creation are not separate — they give rise to each other. The born Purusha then pervaded all space.

Going Deeper:

This verse describes a reciprocal creation — Purusha and Viraj emerge from each other. This is not linear causation but cyclical interdependence, like the chicken and egg. It points to the mystery that the absolute and the manifest world are mutually implicated.

How To Apply This:

Creation is not a one-time event but an ongoing dance. You are both created and creative — receiving existence and participating in its unfolding. Honor both your receptivity and your creative power.
