yadātmatattvena tu brahmatatvaṃ dīpopameneha yuktaḥ prapaśyet | ajaṃ dhruvaṃ sarvatattvavirviśuddhaṃ jñātvā devaṃ mucyate sarvapāpaiḥ ||
"When through the essence of the Self, as if by a light, one sees the essence of Brahman - knowing that unborn, eternal God, pure beyond all principles, one is freed from all sin."
What This Means:
When you use your Self-knowledge as a lamp to see Brahman, you recognize God as unborn and eternal. This knowledge frees you from all wrongdoing.
Going Deeper:
Self-knowledge illuminates Brahman-knowledge. The Self is the lamp; Brahman is what is seen. They are ultimately one - seeing this purifies completely.
How To Apply This:
Use self-inquiry as a lamp to illuminate higher truth. Self-knowledge leads naturally to God-knowledge.
