Shvetashvatara Upanishad 4.5

घृतात्परं मण्डमिवातिसूक्ष्मं ज्ञात्वा शिवं सर्वभूतेषु गूढम्। विश्वस्यैकं परिवेष्टितारं ज्ञात्वा देवं मुच्यते सर्वपाशैः॥

ghṛtātparaṃ maṇḍamivātisūkṣmaṃ jñātvā śivaṃ sarvabhūteṣu gūḍham | viśvasyaikaṃ pariveṣṭitāraṃ jñātvā devaṃ mucyate sarvapāśaiḥ ||

"Knowing the auspicious Shiva hidden in all beings - like the thin cream (essence) above the clarified butter - knowing the one God who envelops the universe, one is released from all bonds."

What This Means:

Just as cream rises subtly above butter, Shiva is the subtle essence hidden in all beings. Knowing this enveloping God frees one from all bondage.

Going Deeper:

The ghee metaphor shows how the essence (Brahman/Shiva) permeates yet transcends all manifestation, just as cream is in milk yet distinct.
