atha hainaṃ kausalyaścāśvalāyanaḥ papraccha | bhagavankuta eṣa prāṇo jāyate kathamāyātyasmiñśarīre ātmānaṃ vā pravibhajya kathaṃ pratiṣṭhate kenotkramate kathaṃ bāhyamabhidhatte kathamadhyātmamiti ||

"Then Kausalya Ashvalayana asked: "Lord, from where is this Prana born? How does it come into this body? How does it abide after dividing itself? By what does it depart? How does it support the external world and the internal Self?""

What This Means:

The third question is comprehensive: Where does Prana come from? How does it enter, divide, and function in the body? How does it depart at death?

Going Deeper:

This inquiry goes to the heart of the mind-body-spirit connection and the mechanism of life and death.

How To Apply This:

Investigate: How does life-energy function in your own body? Where does your vitality come from?
