Paraphrase of Maitri Upaniṣad 1.2

"There was a king named Brihadratha. Having handed over his kingdom to his son, he retired to the forest."

What This Means:

King Brihadratha gave up his throne to his son and went to the forest to seek spiritual truth.

Going Deeper:

This represents the traditional fourth stage of life (sannyasa) - when one renounces worldly duties for spiritual pursuit.

How To Apply This:

There comes a time when external achievements no longer satisfy, and we must turn inward.
