अविद्यायामन्तरे वर्तमानाः स्वयं धीराः पण्डितंमन्यमानाः। दन्द्रम्यमाणाः परियन्ति मूढा अन्धेनैव नीयमाना यथान्धाः॥
avidyāyāmantare vartamānāḥ svayaṃ dhīrāḥ paṇḍitaṃmanyamānāḥ | dandramyamāṇāḥ pariyanti mūḍhā andhenaiva nīyamānā yathāndhāḥ ||
""Living in the midst of ignorance, thinking themselves wise and learned, the deluded go round and round, like the blind led by the blind.""
What This Means:
Those deep in ignorance believe they are wise! They wander in circles, like blind people following other blind people.
Going Deeper:
This is one of the most powerful images in the Upanishads. Self-delusion is the greatest obstacle - we don't know what we don't know.
How To Apply This:
Be humble about your knowledge. Ask: What am I blind to? Who is truly wise?
