सा होवाच गार्गी। याज्ञवल्क्य यदिदं सर्वमप्स्वोतं च प्रोतं च कस्मिन्नु खल्वाप ओताश्च प्रोताश्चेति। वायौ गार्गीति॥

sā hovāca gārgī | yājñavalkya yadidaṃ sarvamapsv otaṃ ca protaṃ ca kasminnu khalvāpa otāśca protāśceti | vāyau gārgīti ||

"Gargi said: "Yajnavalkya, if all this is woven, warp and woof, on water, on what is water woven?" "On air, Gargi.""

What This Means:

Gargi asks: Everything is woven on water - but what is water woven on? Yajnavalkya answers: Air.

Going Deeper:

Gargi's questioning method traces causes back progressively. She seeks the ultimate ground of all.

How To Apply This:

Keep asking: What is this based on? Trace causes back to the ultimate.
