paritrāṇāya sādhūnāṁ vināśāya ca duṣkṛtām dharma-saṁsthāpanārthāya sambhavāmi yuge yuge
"To protect the good, to destroy the wicked, and to establish dharma, I appear age after age."

Krishna explains the three purposes of his incarnations: protect the virtuous, destroy the evil, and re-establish dharma. And this happens 'yuge yuge'—in every age, repeatedly throughout time. The Divine is actively involved in the moral arc of history.
