Gita 4.2
एवं परम्पराप्राप्तमिमं राजर्षयो विदुः। स कालेनेह महता योगो नष्टः परन्तप।।

evaṁ paramparā-prāptam imaṁ rājarṣayo viduḥ sa kāleneha mahatā yogo naṣṭaḥ parantapa

"Thus received through the chain of succession, the royal sages knew this yoga. But over a long course of time, O Arjuna, this yoga was lost."

What This Means:

This knowledge was passed down through generations of wise kings who both ruled and practiced spirituality. But over vast stretches of time, the teaching became corrupted or lost. What Arjuna is hearing is a restoration of something ancient.

Going Deeper:

'Rajarshi' (royal sage) indicates this wasn't just for monks but for active leaders. The teaching gets lost ('nashta') not by destruction but by corruption—additions, subtractions, misinterpretations accumulate until the original meaning is obscured. Each age needs the teaching to be renewed.

How To Apply This:

Truth needs to be rediscovered in every generation. The original insight gets buried under interpretations, rituals, and institutions. When something feels like profound truth to you, you may be recovering something your soul has always known but forgotten.
