vīta-rāga-bhaya-krodhā man-mayā mām upāśritāḥ bahavo jñāna-tapasā pūtā mad-bhāvam āgatāḥ
"Free from attachment, fear, and anger, absorbed in Me, taking refuge in Me, purified by the fire of knowledge—many have attained My nature."
What This Means:
Many people have already achieved liberation this way. How? By becoming free from attachment, fear, and anger; by absorbing their minds in Krishna; by taking refuge in him; and by being purified through wisdom. It's been done before—it can be done.
Going Deeper:
The verse lists the process: first 'vita-raga-bhaya-krodha' (freedom from the emotional triad of craving, fear, and anger), then 'man-maya' (absorbed in the Divine), then 'mam upashrita' (surrendered), then 'jnana-tapas' (the austerity of knowledge). The result is 'mad-bhava' (attaining the Divine's own nature). 'Bahava' (many) assures us this isn't for rare souls only.
How To Apply This:
You're not attempting the impossible. Many have walked this path successfully. The requirements are clear: release attachment, fear, and anger; focus on the Divine; surrender; pursue wisdom. These are doable practices, not superhuman feats. The path is proven.
