saha-yajñāḥ prajāḥ sṛṣṭvā purovāca prajāpatiḥ anena prasaviṣyadhvam eṣa vo 'stv iṣṭa-kāma-dhuk
"In the beginning, the Creator created humankind along with sacrifice and said: 'By this shall you prosper; may this fulfill all your desires.'"
What This Means:
When the Creator made humans, sacrifice (yajna) came as part of the package. It's built into how the universe works. The Creator said: 'This is how you'll thrive—through giving, offering, sacrifice. This will fulfill your needs.' Generosity is programmed into existence.
Going Deeper:
This verse establishes yajna as cosmic law, not just religious ritual. 'Prajapati' (the Creator) designed the universe as an interconnected system of giving and receiving. Everything gives: the sun gives light, clouds give rain, earth gives food. Humans who take without giving break this cosmic order.
How To Apply This:
You exist within a web of giving and receiving. The air you breathe, the food you eat, the knowledge you have—all came from others. What are you giving back? This isn't about guilt—it's about participating in the flow. Givers thrive; takers stagnate.
