Chapter 2: The Eternal Soul

Gita 2.12
न त्वेवाहं जातु नासं न त्वं नेमे जनाधिपाः। न चैव न भविष्यामः सर्वे वयमतः परम्।।

na tv evāhaṁ jātu nāsaṁ na tvaṁ neme janādhipāḥ na caiva na bhaviṣyāmaḥ sarve vayam ataḥ param

"There was never a time when I did not exist, nor you, nor any of these kings. And there will never be a time when any of us shall cease to exist."

What This Means:

Krishna drops a truth bomb: 'We have always existed and will always exist.' You, me, everyone here—we're not temporary beings who appeared at birth and disappear at death. We are eternal. The soul has no beginning and no end.

Going Deeper:

Note that Krishna maintains individual identity ('I', 'you', 'these kings') even while teaching eternal existence. This counters the idea that enlightenment means merging into an impersonal void. We remain distinct conscious beings, but our true nature is eternal, not physical.

How To Apply This:

You are not a temporary accident. Your existence matters because you are eternal. This reframes everything: setbacks become lessons, not tragedies. Death becomes transition, not ending. Your choices ripple through eternity.

Key Sanskrit Terms:

Jatu= Ever, at any timeJanadhipah= Rulers, kings
