"Entering the earth, I sustain all beings with energy; and becoming the watery moon, I nourish all plants."
What This Means:
Krishna pervades the earth and sustains all beings through its energy. As the moon (associated with water and nourishment), he nourishes all plants with life-giving essence. God sustains all life.
Going Deeper:
'Gām āviśya'—entering the earth. 'Bhūtāni dhārayāmi ojasā'—I sustain beings with ojas (vital energy). 'Somaḥ bhūtvā rasātmakaḥ'—becoming the watery/nourishing moon. 'Puṣṇāmi oṣadhīḥ sarvāḥ'—I nourish all herbs/plants. Soma is associated with the moon, water, and the vital essence in plants. God is the energy sustaining earth and the sap nourishing vegetation.
